Cruel part of the rite of becoming a witch doctor, or Sangoma.

This is how it was told to me. From the brother of a female initiate who was asked to help in a Sangoma initiation ceromony.

I was there, I saw things that I must believe. Eish… I would not like to be a witch doctor. I have seen this on the the night she is to be tested. She must take 3 goats – and she must, with her teeth, bite the neck and tear the vein, and then drink the blood. 3 times, 3 goats. They were alive.

She must then take the bile from the liver – what is this thing called – the liver? I must then take the bile and I must hide it. She must find it. I can hide it anywhere, on the roof, in the water, far away – it does not matter. If she can find it she has the powers.
We go to a big dam, a very big dam, you cannot swim to the other side  – where there is a snake – it is a mythological snake, everyone is very scared of this place.

They begin to hit the drums and clapping. She goes to the reeds, and gloop, she is gone, for maybe one hour. We then see her – there on the other side in the reeds. She is singing.She comes back, she has the bile, her eyes are closed and she is walking and singing. She does not need to open her eyes to see – she just walks. She has found the bile. The people begin to ulalate…li li li li li, and the drums are loud. She has passed, she is now a sangoma. I feel so afraid, I feel sorry for this abuse to my sister.

If you want to test a Sangoma, you must hide something and she must find it. She will hit the drum, and close her eyes. Then she will come and stare in your face, and say give it to me, and she will pull it from your mouth. You do not say anything… and she will walk straight to the place where your have hidden it. I have seen this.

Sometimes now the Sangomas do not use their powers for good, they use black magic. They take parts of children for their magic and use it to do many bad things. They give muti to the crimminals. They have much power. Sangoma Initiation Ritual
